Our goal is to encourage an atmosphere of Welcome in Barnsley. This is an open invitation to our AGM on 7th March 5.30-7pm in Barnsley Town Hall.

“Experiences of Asylum-seekers & Refugees”

Our visiting speaker will be Rodrigo Edema, Sheffield City of Sanctuary.

Rodrigo coördinates & supports volunteer refugees who are invited into schools to speak about their experiences.

Sheffield City of Sanctuary has been operating for ten years & has a great deal of experience in running this education outreach programme, so his observations should be of particular interest to Parents, Education Officers,

Head teachers & teaching unions.

We’d also like to welcome Councillors, council officials & police officers with a brief for education, community cohesion & inclusivity.

(And, of course, anyone else from Barnsley concerned to find out the facts and to welcome refugees and asylum seekers to our community.)

We shall ask Rodrigo to speak early in our meeting, in the ‘public’ section, so that busy people can get back to their lives, leaving us to get on with the electing a new committee for the coming year and any other pressing issues we need to deal with. However should you be interested in getting more involved with the group you will be very welcome to stay on and to attend our regular monthly meetings.
